LS Mt Oak 6150 “Toughy”

At Providence Ranch, we have a simple focus: being the Home of the Originals. Our passion for the “original” genetics is proven through our legendary bloodlines including LS Mt Nugget 13, LS Mt Rock, and LS Mt Oak 6150, who represent decades of Largent breeding. We raise show-quality Mini Herefords while remaining true to the Mini Hereford standards for height as fully matured cattle. As the sole proprietor of these original genetics and legendary champion bloodlines, we are confident in our ability to serve your herd needs.

NAILE | November 21, 2019 | Louisville, KY

Providence Ranch was represented in the Intermediate Senior Heifer division at the 2019 NAILE with two heifers – PRV Miss Toughy F431 and PRV Miss Toughy F432. Each heifer was sired by the original LS Mt Oak 6150, otherwise known as the “King of Largent Mini Herefords” or “Toughy.” While these genetics had not entered a ring in many years, they proved contenders ranking 1st and 4th in their class. PRV Miss Toughy F431 moved onto the division championship placing 3rd overall.

“Hi! I’m Rebecca, Rollie’s second oldest and probably now favorite kid! I can honestly share that my experience at the NAILE show was unforgettable and a small piece of what will be my dad’s legacy. After months of hard work, lots of baths, hundreds of brush strokes, and special care, love, and attention, my dad had his two prized heifers ready to show. Knowing that I was going to be representing Providence Ranch in the ring at its first ever show was a huge privilege and not a moment I took for granted. I have had the honor of watching my dad raise cattle with his passion as being the Home of the Originals.

Although I knew going into the ring Miss Toughy was somewhat of an underdog at 37” and 473#, I had confidence in her legendary genetics. While constantly whispering to her in the ring and letting her know she was “doing a good job,” I was overcome with emotion when we were one of the last two standing in our class. When the judge pointed at me as the top heifer for our class, it took everything to keep from skipping out of the ring. We quickly looped back into the ring for the final showing to determine division champions where we soon placed third in our division. To go from entering the ring with what could be viewed as a chip on our shoulder to leaving the ring as a blue-ribbon contender left me feeling proud – proud that my dad’s belief in the raising of his cattle was rewarded.”
