Our Dams

Overview

Creating original bloodlines and blended bloodlines requires choosing dams that will bring the remaining key factors that the sire side is unable to produce. With carefully selected dams who carry great bloodlines, we're prepared to offer you some impressive embryo and calf pedigrees to expand your herd.

Not just any dam can claim the title. In fact, the majority of dams within the Mini Hereford breed can not lay hold of the title because it’s an inherited title more than an acquired title. The single qualification to be a Distinguished Dam is that the dam must be a daughter of a Legendary Sire. Within our lineup of dams, we currently have 2 that meet the qualification.

Distinguished PRV Miss Toughy F431 ET

A Toughy Legend. That’s probably the best place to begin. Miss Toughy F431 and F432 (below) are the first ever ET offspring of LS Mt Oak 6150, nicknamed, “Toughy.” How can we be so sure? Because 6150 was never AI permitted prior to our acquiring his rare semen. Currently, Mt Oak 6150 is “In Herd AI Permitted” which means that we can create embryos and calves, but they must be registered at Providence Ranch. Back to F431 as there’s more to her legend. In November of 2019, F431 and her sister were shown at the National Livestock Exposition in Louisville, KY, the first time Providence Ranch has ever shown. F431 being clearly 5” shorter than her competition, proudly won her class and went on to place third out of 14 in her division. Quite impressive when the Reserve and Grand were both more than 5” taller than her. F431 is a beauty with great muscling. She’s heavy boned and ready to go to work. We’ve got great things planned for her. We’ll keep you posted on her big events.

Miss Toughy F431 Pedigree

“The King of Mini Herefords.” That was the title Mt Oak 6150 carried throughout his breeding career. Just seeing that in the pedigree is reason enough to take notice. There aren’t many Toughy daughters out there any more. But, we plan to repopulate, to create a Toughy resurgence. With such greatness, it’s simply the proper thing to do.

Distinguished PRV Miss Toughy F432 ET

Distinguished Dam. It’s not easy to obtain that coveted title - unless you are a daughter of one of our Legendary Sires. Then, you are automatically qualified! Yep. We keep it simple and draw the line in the sand very clearly. A Distinguished Dam must be a daughter of one of our Legendary Sires. Miss Toughy F432 and are sister (above) qualify and they are the only two grown calves in our herd that qualify. Like her sister, we also have great plans for this Toughy daughter. There hasn’t been a registered Mt Oak 6150 daughter since at least 2006. It’s been a while, quite a while, to be sure, but great doesn’t diminish with time. The consistency bred into these “Trumins,” as we like to call them, continues to produce consistent, outstanding offspring. When genetics from over 20 years ago can stand up against what is acclaimed as the great genetics of today, their legendary heritage is commendable to be sure.

Toughy F432 Pedigree

Follow the genetics either direction and you will find highly acclaimed offspring who will all trace back to Largent & Sons rather quickly. With Mt Rock in her pedigree in the second generation, F432 has a great thing going for her, and we intend to keep it going.

LS Star Sapphire 0K22

Looking for old and rare in the same package? Take a look at this pedigree. Many sires and dams date back to the early 1990's and some to the 1980's. Sapphire is a 2010 model originating from the Largent & Sons herd, the breeder of the first true minis, what we call the first "Trumins." After 18 years of careful linebreeding to develop consistency, to create minis that would consistently reproduce themselves, Largent finally obtained what he viewed as his first true mini-hereford. 0K22 is a descendant of that original, meticulous breeding. Having access to rare, vintage semen obtained directly from Rust Largent, we plan to create calves and embryos that contain intense LS breeding because we know that champions produce champions. Since we have access to semen from recent champions, we'll also mate old and recent in order to offer you a blended bloodline. With vintage semen from LS sires like Mt Oak 6150, Mt Nugget 13, Mt Rock, and more, we're excited to put some "Trumins" from Sapphire on the ground and in the tank.

Star Sapphire Pedigree

Looking for different? That’s precisely what Largent was looking for in these LS sires and dams from unique bloodlines. With access to the originals and access, via Star Sapphire, to these more unique bloodlines, we bring great potential to the table through this pedigree.

PRV Hunters Miss Daisy ET

We have a lineup of Hunter, Viking, and Teddy daughters in our flush program. But, for the moment, Daisy stands at the top as our top-notch flush cow. We have other Windi daughters, but Daisy is following in her dam’s footsteps a bit more quickly than her half-sisters. We’re already seeing the greatness of Daisy via our embryo calves, 2 of which we showed (the first time for Providence Ranch to show anywhere) at the National American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, KY, in November of 2019. With both heifers competing against each other, Daisy’s daughter, the first dam noted in our Distinguished Dams listing, placed 3rd out of 14, an accomplishment Rust Largent, son of the original breeder of the Mini Hereford line, called “impressive.” Needless to say, we’re impressed already with Daisy and look forward to creating more embryos and calves on the ground giving you the opportunity to make the show circuit, a task we simply don’t have the time to accomplish on our own.

Miss Daisy Pedigree

Hunter x Windi - If you know the breed, you likely already know Hunter and Windi. They are two fo the most widely known Mini Herefords in the last 10 years or more. Hunter’s sire, as you can see, is King Henry, well-known for his own accomplishments. Windi’s bloodline may be less familiar, but as one of greatest flush cows along with Linda, she has left her mark in the realm of champions.

PRV Vikings Miss Glory ET

If you saw Vicki, Victory, and Glory in person, you'd agree that Glory is the heaviest boned, thickest, and carries the most well-balanced muscle of our three Linda x Viking matings. She is one beautiful, well-built dam. Speaking of similarities, she's also a flush mate to Victory and Vicki and to our phenomenal line up of Linda x Viking bulls. Although Linda's flush career has ended, we're excited to bring you the legacy of Linda from old school breeding mated with a number of different sires including some of our rare, vintage LS semen sires. Take all that and wrap it together and you have champions in the making, champions that will be waiting for you to move them through the show circuit.

Miss Glory Pedigree

Miss Lucinda. The name sounds so formal and, for some, it’s drifting into the past with far too much quietness. Linda, as she was so well known, was responsible for producing multiple champions. Like any dam, she carried 50% of the pedigree, and, essentially, 50% of the potential outcome. Miss Glory, a daughter of Linda, carries greatness. Her pedigree will verify that truth.

PRV Vikings Miss Victory ET

Linda x Viking - "Didn't I just read about a Linda x Viking mating?" Yes, you did, but when you have a great thing going, who wants to use just one when you've got three impressive Linda x Viking matings. Fortunate for us, we didn't have to choose between Vicki, Victory, and Glory because we're using all three! Victory is heavier boned than Vicki, well-balanced, and wrapped with just the right amount of muscle in all the right places. Like Vicki and Glory, she is a full sib to KAP Vikings Lil Adair, grand champion female at the Denver National Western Stock Show in 2012 and then returned in 2013 as grand champion cow/calf pair. We anticipate Victory will create calves as gorgeous as she is, calves that you can have the joy of standing beside in the show ring or maybe we should say the "victory" show ring.

Miss Victory Pedigree

Unique information is sometimes just unique. Other times, it’s worth noting and remembering because it can certainly play a factor in future offspring. Take a look at the registration numbers for King Henry and Lieutenant Brown. They are from different generations, but their registration numbers differ by only 8. Someone was evidently registered at a later date. It would be curious to know the reason.

PRV Teddys Miss Marigold ET

Windi x Teddy - This dam almost made it onto the for sale page, but we just couldn’t let her go. With Windi gone and Teddy semen not for sale, we wanted to be able to pass along this great bloodline, so Miss Marigold was added to our embryo transfer program. She is a beautiful, finer-boned, more feminine-looking dam that can bring Teddy to your herd. We like variety and this girl adds variety to our transfer program and her embryos and calves will add variety to your herd as we plan to create current, blended, and original bloodlines with this dam. That’s what we like to do, offer you variety, variety that has the potential to produce champions for you!

Miss Marigold Pedigree

Obviously, we have great interest in Largent cattle. So, when we see “LS” in pedigrees, we always take notice. As you can see, it’s Windi who brings the LS line into Marigold’s pedigree. You might not recognize these older LS lines, but they connect very quickly to our legendary sires. Within this pedigree, you’ve got greatness on both sides as both Windi and Teddy each carry their own great history.

PRV Vikings Miss Vicki ET

Miss Vicki is a full sib to KAP Vikings Lil Adair, grand champion female at the Denver National Western Stock Show in 2012 and then she returned the next year as grand champion cow/calf pair. Those are some impressive credentials! Since our Linda x Viking heifers and bulls were both phenomenal embryo transfers in 2016, we tried to line them up and determine which was the best, but it didn’t work. Miss Vicki is a well-muscled, medium-boned dam. She is very well-balanced and an awesome looking dam for our embryo transfer program. We’re expecting great calves, some of which will be half LS breeding. When you have such a great dam as the starting point, it makes it much easier to select the mating sires. We look forward to offering you more blended options via Vicki.

Miss Vicki Pedigree

With a Linda x Viking mating, Vicki’s pedigree nearly speaks for itself. Aware that our Linda x Viking daughters are not the direct result of Largent close breeding, each will display different traits in their offspring, traits we will study carefully to determine how best to advance the most desirable traits.
